Citizen science is a movement in which members of the public assist scientists with their research. This can take many forms, some citizen scientists count penguins in photographs, some gamers help microbiologists understand protein structure, others document the nature they encounter everyday.
Citizen science allows the public to directly engage with science while helping researchers learn new information. That is what our citizen scientists do for us!
Citizen scientists at the Wildlife Viewshed Project are undergraduate and K-12 students from around Idaho. They are gathering data on red squirrel middens for us. This increases the amount of data we can collect and allows these students to directly contribute to our science.
